Problem to save as .doc

Hi,

I installed Ubuntu 10.10 64bits and I have a problem when with OpenOffice
3.3 I want to save any file as .doc the application does not response and I
have to close it. I can save as .docx but I need to save like .doc. Anybody
know how can I resolve this problem? I downloaded LibreOffice but I have a
similar problem, when I want to save like .doc the application close it.

Sorry for my english

Thank you!!!!

Javier

Well, I am not able to reproduce your issue with Debian Testing 64-bit. Is it just complex documents that are not successfully saving, or have you tried simple documents with just one or two words as well?

Chris Carpenter

I routinely use LO for books I'm writing, and while they aren't
particularly complicated, they are long and contain a number of
different paragraph styles, fonts, emphases, etc. I occasionally get
oddball conversion funnies, like italicized words or phrases that are
not italicized in the .doc file, but other than that it seems to work
fine.

I never had a problem with this in OOo (3.2.1 and earlier), not even
with embedded images, frames and fancy formatting "things." The .doc
files don't look the same in Word, but that's not surprising (or
unusual).

Hi,

For example when I try to save as .doc this document the app close but If I
wrote only "asdf" in new document I have not got this problem. I was copy
the text without any format and without the footprint and I can save as a
.doc.
I want to work with .odt and when I need save the document in .doc. How can
I resolve this problem?

Thank you again.

Javier

Well, if the document does not have any confidential information (or if you can change it to where it doesn't, and still reproduces the issue) it would probably help if you could post the document, so we can try it ourselves.

Chris Carpenter

I sent you the document in the last mail. If you do not recive it I send you
again. Or if you want ,I upload the file in other way.

Thank you!!!

Javier

Hi Javier,

I sent you the document in the last mail. If you do not recive it I
send you again. Or if you want ,I upload the file in other way.

as far as I know, all attachments are removed from messages that go to
the list. So please upload it somewhere and just post the link in your
message.

Thanks.

Hello Javier,

I reproduce your problem with OOo 3.2.1 on Mac Intel, but not with
LibreOffice 3.3.0.
The file is saved normally as a .doc file in the latter case.
Not clear what causes OOo to crash on this save as operation...

Hi,

The difference, when I opened with OOo and I want to save in .doc the
application frozen and does not response. But with LibreOffice the
application close inmediatly and does not save it.

Hi,

I deleted the footnote and then I can save like .doc. If I begin to use .doc
every work perfectly but I want to work in .odt and when we need save as
.doc.

Thaks!!!

Javier

There's your solution - work in .odts, then when you need a .doc,
strip out all the footnotes.

OK, but this is not a solution. Somebody knows how can I send my question to
the programmers? Because this is a bug and they can fix it.

Thanks

Javier
