problem with base

When trying to setup an odbc connection to an existing db the application
says "choose a data source" but the list is empty, I can do only cancel or
ok, but nothing happens.
The browse button open an empty list, instead of a browse window of my
filesystem ? Why?

I work in linux fedora, unixodbc is the odbc lib.
