Random curved line mysteriously appeared in the document that does not respond to "cut"

I appreciate your hard work.
  Recently, I created a flyer in Word Processing that after opening my file again later  a... Random curved line mysteriously appeared in the document that does not respond to "cut".
I also had some "fontwork' that did not respond to "cut".
1) why did this line appear?
2) How do you "cut or delete" curved lines or fontwork?
