Save odt/ods files take too much time

Hi,

When i save (Ctrl+S) a file after some modification, it take 5 seconds or
more with a .odt file (~2.5 Mo)
If i save the same presention with .ppt format, it take only 1.5 seconds to
save.

Is only a little presentation file with 25 slides.. I tested it on Windows
and Linux with LibreOffice 3.4.1 and is the same.
Is in a company context and is really too slow..

It is normal ? it is a possible bug ?

Thanks in advance,
Michael

Hi,

What is Mo?

More questions:

Why would you save a presentation as a text file (.odt) and not a
presentation file (.odp)?
Why did you mention ods in the subject line? You mention nowhere in
the body text of the message that you tried to save in that format.

Oups sorry..

Mo (Mega Octet) = MB (Mega Byte)

So ~2.5 MB in my case...

Yes is .odp file, i changed thanks!

So the resulting .odp file is 2.5 MB? That is very big for an .odp, I
think. I don't do presentations myself, but it sounds big anyway.

It seems to me that 5 seconds for .odp could be pretty normal
considering that saving to .ppt format takes about 1.5 seconds. A .ppt
file is, as far as I know, a binary file, but a .odp file is a zip
file containing a couple of files and folders, so when you save as
.odp, files need to be compressed, which takes some time.

So no bug if you ask me.

By the way, how long does it take to uncompress the file with, for
example, FileRoller? You might need to change the file suffix to .zip
before trying that, or maybe not…

ah But

I have one with about the same amount of slides (7.5MB) and it takes 2.2s to open the .odp file and 4.5s for the .pptx

A swing to your roundabout maybe!

Sorry I cannot repeat your "save" timings:-
When I try to save the .opd saves in 4s and saving in the .pptx comes up with a "do you want to save in this format" box, then the save bar does not appear, so you cannot tell on 3.4.1 how long it taking but when you add on the time it takes you to click on this extra box, it has to be longer than 4s.

Well, isn't .pptx also a compressed file, like .odp? I think it is.

Hi
Hopefully you can right-click on a file and choose to "Open with" or "Choose
Program" to browse to an archive manager such as file-roller, WinZip, WinRar or
something. Mine just calls itself "Archive Manager". I have to click on it's
"Help" menu to find out which particular one it is.

Hi
I assumed Mo = Mb, a typo or 2 are inevitable sometimes. It takes a few of us a
while to realise that

odt = 'text' based documents, Word/Writer files
ods = spreadsheets, Excel/Calc
odp = presentations, PowerPoint/Impress
and that ODF is the generic term covering all those three formats and probably
more. There doesn't seem to be a useful similar generic term for proprietary MS
ones. Office workers in England tend to refer to spreadsheets as "Excel files"
rather than as spreadsheets otherwise they might understand the elegance of the
file-endings more easily.

Impress seems to have quite a few quirks and is one of the apps that is going to
get a fair bit of work sometime fairly soon hopefully. Writer and Calc have
been the main focus i think.

Hi
Here is a guide to posting a bug-report
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport
It might help you work out if it is a bug or not. Sorry, hopefully it's more
helpful than i am! If in doubt it's probably better to file a bug-report and
let the triagers decide how to treat it.
Good luck, thanks and regards from
