Shortcut to lock file appears on desktop

I have noticed that sometimes when I open a Libreoffice document a shortcut
to the lock file appears on my desktop. This shortcut remains after I close
the document but when I try to delete it I get a message saying that it
cannot locate the file. The only way I have found to get rid of it is to
re-open the document, delete the shortcut and close the document.

What is happening here?

Windows 8.1 and Libreoffice 4.1.2.3

It sounds like a Win8 issue with how it treats "lock" file and their desktop "tiling" system.

Someone here must have upgraded to 8.1 or bought a system with it on, who can help you figure out "the mess" that Win8.x is doing to you and your files.
