Some extended tips untranslated?

Hi *,
looking at RC2, I found that extended tips (if enabled) are in large part
untranslated, although "Merged UI" is at 100% for Estonian and I remember
having translated identical strings. Looking closer, it seems that such tips
are (mostly?) the ones where I omitted final period, in accordance with the
style guide for translating KDE into Estonian -- also used for GNOME, etc.
for consistency --, which says that tooltips shouldn't end with a period if
consisting of just one short sentence.
Anyway, am I correct that this lack of punctuation at the end is causing
some of the tips to appear untranslated in the UI? (At least for those not
coming from HC2, translation of which is incomplete for Estonian).

Best regards,
Mihkel

Can you please give examples so we can check if there is a bug. AFAIK
extended tips are all coming from HC2, but I may be wrong.

Thanks,
Andras

Well, what caught my attention was the print dialog, i.e.
strings-ending-in-period from here on:
http://translations.documentfoundation.org/et/libo33x_ui/vcl/source/src.po/translate?unit=1172752--
I didn't find those strings in HC2.
(Note that I've since added the periods to the translations, too.)

Hmm, no it's not related to strings-ending-in-period at all. This a bug.
You had these strings translated in the source but they are English in
vclet.res. All languages are affected. l10ntools did not merge localized
HelpText into print.src. :frowning:
The situation is the same with LibreOffice 3.3.0 and OpenOffice.org 3.3.
I'm a bit surprised, because many localizers wanted to localize these
HelpText strings in print.src and it took a lot of effort to make them
extracted to po files
(http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=113961). Why did not
anybody check this in the builds before?

If someone can debug this and send a patch for 3.3.2, that's fine, but
in 3.4 there is no HelpText in print.src so this bug will disappear
automatically. HelpText in resources is said to be deprecated.

Andras

I see. Does that mean we get RC3, too? (Where, hopefully, these are
translated

No, this is not a blocker. It does not block anything (no crash, no
data loss, no regression etc.). In fact it is a cosmetical issue that
went unnoticed through the whole beta and RC (10 RCs!) cycle of OOo
3.3 and of LibreOffice 3.3 as well. I checked the source in the last
hour and support of HelpText is removed (see l10ntools\inc\export.hxx
and l10ntools\source\merge.cxx). It does not make much sense to
resurrect it, because in 3.4 and in the future it is not needed. I'm
sorry that many of us translated these 21 strings in vain. Maybe they
can be re-used later (in HC2 of 3.4).

Andras
