Startup positioning problem with LO 3.5.2.2

I recently upgraded to LO 3.5.2.2 and I'm mostly quite pleased with
it, especially the way it now opens the My Templates folder when I
want to do a new file from a template (this disappeared in 3.3 or 3.4,
where it just opened the templates without opening a specific folder,
but I digress).

However, I have noticed an interesting quirk that set in right away.

I use LO at work to edit documents that I intend to use personally
(since our "official" document processor is - I can't say it, but
everyone knows what the default is...). I have the good fortune to
have two 24" HD monitors side by side, and I tend to use the right one
for such efforts. This makes my monitor size 3840x1080, and I use
most of that real estate all the time.

However, since 3.5.2.2, even though I move every document I open to
the right edge of the right screen (1920-3839, but more than half way
across the second 1920 pixels of screen), new ones ALWAYS open on the
left screen (0-1919). This did not happen in 3.4, and I believe it
didn't happen in 3.5.1, but I wouldn't swear to it.

I would really really really prefer that LO could remember where it
was when the last window was closed and reopen there, the way it used
to do.

Any clues?

Thanks!

Mark

Hi
I tend to find most things open on the monitor i happen to be using when i try to open the thing.  A few things almost always go to the primary monitor.  I don't know if there is a script or something in LO's User Profile that decides where to open things?  It would be interesting to know

This problem is consistent and unerring.

As a side note, if I open a second document, it always opens on the
left edge of the left screen. This was also happening in 3.4, but at
least it could remember one document's position (right edge of right
screen instead of right edge of left screen).

Anyone else have a clue?

Hi
Isn't this set in the OS somewhere?  I vaguely remember someone getting an answer to this in Ubuntu's Launchpad forums in late 2008, maybe mid 2009.

Which OS are you using?  Do you know which DesktopEnvironment;  KDE, Gnome, Unity?

This is on Ubuntu 10.10 (I haven't upgraded yet) running GNOME 2.32
and the NVIDIA graphics driver.

The splash screen always comes up on the correct monitor (whichever
one the mouse is in), but the writer window does not ever open on the
right screen no matter where the mouse is. LO 3.4 (and I believe
earlier revisions of 3.5 - .0 and .1, I think) always remembered where
the last writer window was closed and reopened there.

Note: This was not happening with LO 3.4 on the same OS.

Thanks.

I have now upgraded that machine to Xubuntu 12.04 and LibreOffice
3.5.4 and it still has the same problem. The main difference is that
the Xfce gdm seems to think the screen is a single monitor with
3840x1020 resolution, but LO still can't go past the 1920x divide when
it starts the writer window. This is somewhat interesting because the
splash panel for LO comes up on whichever screen where the mouse is,
but the writer not so.

Hi
Pleas can you give us a link to the thread you started about this in the Xubuntu forums?  Are they saying this is a LO issue?
Thanks and regards from
Tom

I have not raised this as an issue in the OS forums because it is a LO
startup problem that (at least now) transcends two Linux OS levels and
two different GUIs/GDMs.

Hi
Have you tried renaming your User Profile to reset all the settings back to factory defaults?

I am not getting the same problem on Ubuntu 10.04, i haven't yet tried with 12.04.  So i don't think it should be happening with Xubuntu either but i don't know how to dig around the relevant settings.  I thought those settings were part of the DE's settings?  Renaming the User Profile would help show whether the LO settings have gone wrong or whether it is part of the OSes settings.

I'll give that a shot when I have a chance - it may be a few days.

Thanks.

Hi
Sorry, i didn't give the link before.  It's

I'm playing around with different Live Cd sessions today and didn't have the link at hand.

I took a look at that, and yesterday I tried to find the debs to
reload 3.51 to "prove" that the change happened between 3.51 and 3.52,
but TDF doesn't have old versions available for download anymore and I
routinely delete the old downloads once the new one installs
successfully.

Obviously I will be a little more careful about when I delete the old
ones from now on - not until after I've been using the new one for a
while.

The problem still happens with LO 3.54, although nothing else I
routinely use has this issue - IIRC even Chrome starts up on the same
screen panel (right side) where it left off, except after a reboot.

I don't know if I mentioned this before, but the screen on this
machine is configured as a "single" 3840x1080 monitor, on top of the
NVidia manager's "real" configuration of two monitors, one to the
right of the other.

(sigh)

Maybe 3.6 will solve this....

Thanks. I pulled down 3.5.1 and installed it, and the problem is still
there.

I could go back to a 3.4 version, but I don't know if it's that important
to me.

Foo. I'll just live with it.
