Strange pdf printout in Calc vs. Excel

Hi All

I noticed that if I have a Calc file with multiple sheets, even if with regular print area defined, if I click the "Print PDF directly" button while positioned in a specific sheet, the command prints out *all the sheets* I have in the file.

With the same situation in Excel, the printout is *only the sheet* I'm positioned.

Can anybody confirm this behaviour?

Thanks, ciao

Hi Valter,

Don't know where you get "Print PDF directly".
There is a button "Export as PDF". With this button the whole document
will be exported.
Print > Print to File: Default is selected sheet for this function.
The file will be a *.pdf, too.

@Valter
There is actually an enhancement request related to PDF export in Calc:
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54052

I agree the default of printing the entire workbook is generally unwelcome.

You recognized Valter himself wrote this enhancement request four

unwelcome.

The button is a button for "Export as PDF" - not for printing.
Printing button is right beside this. Here you could print in a file
and the default here is pdf and selected sheet.

"Export as PDF" should work like it works in Writer, too. And there
will be not much people, who only want to export the selected page.

Actually, I did not notice that. I recently added myself to the CC list for
that bug as I agree that more control over PDF output from Calc would be
nice.

If I choose File > Print (Ctrl+P); then set "Printer" = "Print to File
..."; then click the "Pint to File..." button. The "Save As" window
appears. The only "Save as type" available is *.PRN. Thus, it does not
appear that a PDF can be produced from Ctrl+P. (Unless an 'PDF Printer' has
been separately installed on the computer.)

And there will be not much people, who only want to export the selected

page.
My spreadsheets typically include one or more sheets for data and analysis
and a single summary sheet. I typically only distribute the summary sheet
in PDF format. Thus, from my perspective it would be nice if the Calc
default for PDF creation was the same as for printing (Selected sheets) or
the PDF Export default could be configured in Options or under Expert
Configuration.

I assume by "Print PDF directly" you mean the "Export as PDF" button on the toolbar.

You can get more control of the PDF output by using File > Export as PDF... On the "General" tab, set "Range" to "Selection"; if there is a selection, it will include only the selected range, otherwise it will include only the selected sheet.

You can even select more than one sheet to be included (e.g. if you want to include the first and third sheets) by clicking on the tab for one of them and then holding Ctrl on the keyboard while clicking each of the others. Then File > Export as PDF..., set "Range" to "Selection" will only the selected sheets.

If you want those extra options accessible from the toolbar button rather than going through the File menu, you can customise your toolbars at Tools > Customise > Toolbars. The default icon is on the "Standard" toolbar, and you want to add the button for Category "Documents", Command "Export as PDF" (the one without an icon). After adding it, you can click the "Modify" button and give it an icon rather than appearing on the toolbar as the text "Export as PDF".
