String in need for changes

This string needs to be updated for latest 4.0 release. Or if not used
let´s remove it.

File: readlicense_oo/docs.po
Context: readme.xrm otherinstall2 readmeitem.text

The desktop-integration directory also contains a package named
libreoffice3.3-freedesktop-menus-3.3.1.noarch.rpm (or similar). This is a
package for all Linux distributions that support the Freedesktop.org
specifications/recommendations (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free
desktop.org">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedesktop.org</a>), and is
provided for installation on other Linux distributions not covered in the
aforementioned instructions.

Hi,

Do we really need to touch the version number for each release? Now we
have libreoffice4.0-freedesktop-menus-4.0.0-103.noarch.rpm. The
sentence in readme says
"libreoffice3.3-freedesktop-menus-3.3.1.noarch.rpm (or similar)". For
me the new name is similar enough to the old one.

Having 3.3 in readme suggests that we do not update readme very often.
This is true, and this may be a problem. But changing only the version
numbers would not help IMHO.

I do agreed that changing numbers at each version wouldn´t be best process.

Maybe we could use an alias like
"libreofficeX.Y-freedesktop-menus-X.Y.Z.noarch.rpm (where XYZ is the
version release)

Hi
Ahh, now i have seen the disclaimer in brackets.  I think we can relax about this.  The "(or similar)" is enough to show people that there will be some difference between different releases or versions.  Also it's just for a sub-set of users, not a general thing that every user will need.  Even as a Debian-family (specifically Ubuntu in my case) user i can see how this roughly applies to me.  I just pretend the 3.3 is more like a 4.0 and that the .rpm is more like a .deb.  Having a different file for each case would create (fairly minor but still annoying) problems that we don't need.

Hi
+1
Except i think using XYZ just makes it more confusing rather than less confusing.  Even though the numbers are a little wrong it does at least indicate to expect numbers.  That "(or similar)" is plenty.

Hi
Is this something the 'international'/English Documentation Team should work on?  If so then it's likely to be a looong time before it gets updated.  It's a small team with a long wish-list of things it wants to work on.  Do people ever read ReadMe files?  I know we should and i'm sure some here do but most office workers seem to have not even heard of them or think they are just for geeks.

If this ReadMe is used and is useful then please just ask the English Documentation team or let me know and i'll ask (i'm already on their mailing list but just not very active)

Looks like I´m the only one that thinks this way so let´s stick to what we
have.

I wonder if these readme files are read anyway by users or admins. They
are stored in the installation root files and no link to them in the UI.

IMHO, they better be in our portal in a link visible from the download page.

Hello, Ollivier,

I wonder if these readme files are read anyway by users or admins. They
are stored in the installation root files and no link to them in the UI.

if one uses OS X, when one opens/mounts the .dmg file one gets only
four icons, two representing the main program and the Applications
directory where one moves and thus installs LO on OSX. But I got
astray. One of those four icons is a readme directory with - readme
file. So, funnily, this "hidden", techie txt file is most visible to
the users of the most user-friendly, graphic (non-techie?) operating
system. I attach a simple screenshot which show also a bug with the
displacement of a graphic element that still exists in 4.0.0 (I always
forget to file this bug).

I have wondered several times but forgot to file a bug as a suggestion
- why not generate a pdf instead of a txt file?

Also, I do not see why there are not all readme files in this dir,
just the English one (on OSX one must install en-US app and then add
the lang pack with help, GUI translation is not included in main app;
so the main app readme dir should include readme files in all
supported languages so one knows if the system is adequate etc.).
Another bug/suggestion I need to file, I guess ...
