Subject: LO does not run on Ubuntu 16.04

Hi

I am still on Ubuntu 16.04.
After the installation of LO,
/opt/libreoffice7.2/program/swriter

I obtain
opt/libreoffice7.2/program/soffice.bin: symbol lookup error: /opt/libreoffice7.2/program/libvclplug_gtk3lo.so: undefined symbol: gtk_widget_path_iter_set_object_name

I tried to follow the advice found in

https://ask.libreoffice.org/t/installed-libreoffice-7-1-on-ubuntu-16-04-lts-it-does-not-start-and-i-get-the-following-error/61992/3

But it does not work

Any help would be appreciated or a link to older LO.

Regards

Uwe Brauer

You can find pretty much all versions of LO available at
http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

You have to poke around to find the one you want, but they're all there.

Good luck.

Mark

Have you tried installing the flatpak version instead?

My understanding is that flatpak includes the dependencies within the
installation, instead of using the distro.

It makes for a larger download, but reduces the likelihood of failure or
taking weeks to get it to boot.

https://www.libreoffice.org/download/flatpak/

One thing though... there won't be a 32bit version of LibreOffice 7.2. If
you're still on Ubuntu 16 because the cpu in your system is 32bit... I
think LibreOffice 6.4 is the latest version that has a 32 bit edition.
Specifically, if you type "uname -m" into a linux shell and you see
"X86_64", it means you're running 64 bit linux, and a LibreOffice 7.2
flatpak will likely work on your install. But if you instead see "i386" or
"i686", you need to use a 32 bit flatpak.

Hi Uwe
I am Linux Mint 20.2 and always make manual installation of LibO
following the installation procedure given by LibO.
This gives an installation for each LibO x.y version. Any x.y.z
installations will overwrite the x.y.z-1 version. Once you did this
installation a few times, it is done in a few minutes. It keeps all
settings of the previous versions.
Thus, when I now install 7.2, I will have 4 versions. The original LibO
version which came with my Linux Mint 20.2 installation LibO 6.4.x,
LibO 7.0, LibO 7.1, and LibO 7.2. I will than uninstall the 7.0 version
but keep the 6.4 version for safety reasons. I like this feature of
LibO und Linux Mint and it should be the same for Ubuntu.
Good luck !
