[The Document Foundation - Pootle server] Translating Kurdish Messages

Hi Erdal,

In addition, which form of Kurdish? Sorani (in Arabic script) or Kurmanji (in Latin script) or another variant altogether?

We currently seem to have Kurmanji (https://translations.documentfoundation.org/kmr-Latn/ which seems rather quiet) and a duplicate (by the looks of it) under https://translations.documentfoundation.org/ku/ which just has a partially translated terminology file in Latin script. Note to admins: we should really merge those or reduce them to one locale somehow.

Hi,

In addition, which form of Kurdish? Sorani (in Arabic script) or Kurmanji
(in Latin script) or another variant altogether?

We currently seem to have Kurmanji
(https://translations.documentfoundation.org/kmr-Latn/ which seems rather
quiet) and a duplicate (by the looks of it) under
https://translations.documentfoundation.org/ku/ which just has a partially
translated terminology file in Latin script. Note to admins: we should
really merge those or reduce them to one locale somehow.

The situation is slightly twisted.. the language code 'ku' should be
avoided as it is a collective language code. The defined locales in
LibreOffice are

* ckb-IQ "Kurdish, Central (Iraq)" implicitly written in Arabic script
  * this is referred to as ku-Arab-IQ by MS and resolved, also ku-IQ
    resolves to the same locale
* ckb-IR "Kurdish, Central (Iran)" implicitly written in Arabic script
  * ku-IR resolves to the same locale
* kmr-Latn-SY "Kurdish, Northern (Syria)"
  * kmr-SY implicitly written in Latin script resolves to the same
    locale
  * ku-SY resolves to the same locale
* kmr-Latn-TR "Kurdish, Northern (Turkey)"
  * kmr-TR implicitly written in Latin script resolves to the same
    locale
  * ku-TR resolves to the same locale
* sdh-IQ "Kurdish, Southern (Iraq)" implicitly written in Arabic script
* sdh-IR "Kurdish, Southern (Iran)" implicitly written in Arabic script

So the translations should be one of

* ckb (Arabic script)
* kmr-Latn (Latin script) <== this is already used in language packs
* sdh (Arabic script)

... if not yet something completely different :wink:
