Thunderbird

Hello

I know I shouldn't be talking about this in the l10n mailing list, but I am not subscribed to the other list.

I saw that Mozilla wants to ditch Thunderbird because it's too much work for them to maintain it.

I've heard some rumors in the past that TDF might wants take over. If that's the case, I think it's a great idea. That will be in my opinion the missing app that LO needs and I also believe the LO community will do a much better work developing.

Does anyone know anything about this or has any opinions?

One of the reasons behind the success of the LibreOffice project is the
sharp focus on a single application, which is not going to change
anytime soon. We are already working on the Android and the Cloud
versions of LibreOffice, and this is more than enough - in term of
global effort - for a community based project. So, please avoid any
speculation based on rumors, as they might be intentionally created by
our competitors.

Well.. I guess that puts an end to my case. Haha.

Thanks Italo.

Mozilla is trying to separate TB from FX technically, so they don't depend on each other. That's the first goal, and it's actually good thing for TB.
After that it will be decided if TB will stay under Mozilla as separate project with community lead, separate donations, leadership etc., or will be transfered to another organization.

I'm not directly involved in process, but as far as I can see best candidate (except Mozilla) is pEp or some free software organization from US.
TDF is also good candidate, but as far as I saw, TDF didn't show much (or any) interest in that.

I think it's good that something is happening, status quo isn't good for TB.
