Translating LibO 3.3

Hi,

I just wrote some notes about 3.3 translation at the wiki:

http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/LibreOffice/i18n/translating_3.3

seems, as if several languages are not at 100% for the new features.
Does anybody see a problem with this? I hope everyone would be able to get
the po-files from git?

Second question: does anybody volunteer to collect the changes and
commit them to the repository (I could do so, but would be happy if there
are some helping hands).

regards,

André

I can help collecting the changes and committing them to the repository.
I will have to check if I still have commit rights

I'm willing to do the committing for the l10n language leaders.

Don't have an account yet (what's the procedure?), but that's solvable.

Hi,

Before you start, please note that these po files were updated on
2010-03-25 so they are outdated. I'll ask around on irc, if anybody is
taking care about updating them, if not, I can do that. Also, we may
want to wait for "string freeze" or something like that. Many patches
land in git in these days.

Best regards,
Andras

Afaik, Cedric is taking care - you may ping him directly.

Petr Mladek and Cedric are working on the localize tool. Petr will
update the po files this week. Strings will be "almost final" by then.

Hi Andre, I am just updating Serbian translations and have a question
about these strings:

#: officecfg/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/UI/GenericCommands.xcu#..GenericCommands.UserInterface.Commands..uno_GetSubscription.Label.value.text
msgid "~Upgrade to Full Version"
msgstr ""

#: officecfg/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/UI/GenericCommands.xcu#..GenericCommands.UserInterface.Popups..uno_SubscriptionMenu.Label.value.text
msgid "~Subscription"

Is this something used in a OpenOffice.org Novell Edition software
product?

As a comment, if you are merging PO translations with the new POT
template, pass the --previous argument to msgmerge command. This will
keep the old msgid as a comment to all fuzzy matches so you can diff it
and compare what was changed while translating.

Thanks,
Goran Rakic

It seems that you mixed the translated with untranslated columns.

Taking Hebrew for example:
Page: 4 untranslated, 12 fuzzy, 326 translated
PO: 4 translated, 12 fuzzy, 326 untranslated

The translation percentage should also be re-calculated.

Hi Goran,

Is this something used in a OpenOffice.org Novell Edition software
product?

Yes, those .po files will probably contain some strings that were in
Go-oo patches but aren't in LibreOffice. The ones you pointed out are
effectively strings that were used in the Novell Edition only.

It seems that you mixed the translated with untranslated columns.

oops, sorry - fixed. (put also the correct perl command line to the wiki).

Nice to have German at 100% again

I hope everyone would be able to get the po-files from git?

Translators can use the cgit web interface to download files using a web
browser from http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/build/tree/po

Just click on a file, like ooo-build-sr.po, and on the next page click
the blue "plain" link next to the file path do download a file.

Second question: does anybody volunteer to collect the changes and
commit them to the repository

Thanks to Milos Popovic from the Serbian OpenOffice.org community, here
are the updated translations for Serbian Cyrillic and Serbian Latin:
  http://libreoffice.rs/patches/l10n-2010-10-05/ooo-build-sr.po.bz2
  http://libreoffice.rs/patches/l10n-2010-10-05/ooo-build-sh.po.bz2

I added some info on merging existing PO files with the latest POT.
Looking on the number of total messages in various PO files, this is not
done automatically.

To merge PO with the latest POT you can use msgmerge tool from the GNU
Gettext package, for example:
  msgmerge -U --previous ooo-build-<lang>.po ooo-build.pot

The latest POT file (as of git commit 4da73733...) has 346 messages
(1409 words) for translation.

With the update to our translation process, PO files should be merged
automatically in Git when the POT is updated, using a post-receive hook.

Kind regards,
Goran Rakic

This system is not intuitive for most translators. Many of us use Pootle,
Launchpad or an offline CAT tool.
As one of the active members of the Italian (OOo) Team, I hope there will b
e
something easier to manage, with a nice graphical online interface, to have

more "independent" translators.

Probably it's too soon for that...

By the way, I've found one error in
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/build/tree/po/it.po

and we need to understand guidelines for the Italian interface.

If we follow the OOo ones, then the mentioned file needs to be revised
urgently.

May I correct and send it here in list for the commit?

Same as I do

Yes, we are going to provide something that is easier for translators
(I curently prefere Pootle, as OOo-people are used to it).
But we nee to change our build process first.

Yes, you should use gudelines for the OOo interface (UI should be
consistent).

May I correct and send it here in list for the commit?

Yes, should work.

Yes, should work.

Attached, the corrected file, the commit address:

Best regards,

This file is used to create menu entries on GNU/Linux systems. It was
probably translated by your local Linux community or by one of the
GNU/Linux distributions as it is not from OpenOffice.org source.

The reference for these are in build/desktop and, as I can see, they
should probably be updated for LibreOffice, replacing OOo with LibO.

I was not been able to find Makefile rule to extract new messages, but
there are intltool calls in desktop/Makefile.am to merge translations
back.

OpenOffice.org has something similar in source/sysui/, there are scripts
for merging localization in source/sysui/desktop/share/ but I do not
know how this gets packaged as a proper desktop-integration package.

Using intltool, as is in LibO, should be a more standard way.

Goran

I'm taking care of ' ooo-build-es.po' to correct and complete the translation.

I have to send the patch to this list when it is finished? Because I
don't have rights on the git repository.

Best regards,

Santiago

Hi Goran,

Here is a documentation of old workflow for ooo-build. It maybe useful,
or we can discuss & update the workflow & the document.

Yes, I know the person in the author's tag of the .po file. He's a Gnome an
d
Ubuntu Friend

But I updated the file with the correct, official version we are using in O
Oo, we
have the complete translation, it makes no sense to change guidelines and
style, for the moment.

I agree with you.
