Translation of extensions

Dear Translator Commnity,

Are you interested to translate extensions that could be enabled via
LibO build environment? I created a workflow to convert properties files
to po then back. Lets discuss the possibilities and if you are commited
to translate such extensions I will publis scripts, and the converted po
files.

Great!

Isn't that the point of localization - that the product is fully localized?
It is just that te process must be simplified and centralised in some way to
be transparent and manageable.

Hi!

It is not easy to steamlined the extension that comes from outside
(downloadable oxt). Maybe we can put po files to Pootle then the translators
can can do their tasks easily. We can convert it back to properties file and
send it to the developer or directly inject to the oxt (zip files).

Right.

Or there is another way. We can ask the developers to join their code into
the LO codebase/tree, so other developers can improve their extensions etc.
and thus the localization of these extensions becomes a part of LO
translation process.

Even better: since the mixture of truly open and commercial extensions on
the extensions.services.openoffice.org site was a concern for the promotors
of open source, LO should in the long run offer a platform like that for
open source only extensions, but could additionally offer also the code
repository and a UI localization interface just like the one at Babelzilla
for Mozilla extensions. That would be best in my opinion.

In libs-gui/l10ntools there is a complete and mature framework for
extracting strings from source code to SDF. It works with not only Java
.properties files but with several other file types as well. Not every
extension utilizes Java .properties, not even in LibO source. For
example you cannot localize Numbertext, Typography toolbar of Lightproof
this way – not to mention extensions that have help.

When you have the SDF snippets, you can convert them into PO or XLIFF
and upload those files to Pootle.
