Translation statistics of RC1

Hi Localizers,

LibreOffice 3.3 RC1 is out. Please check the translation statistics of
your language at:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Translation_for_3_3#Translation_statistics

If you are not at 100% or you wish to make fixes, please update your
files in Pootle -- or if you don't use Pootle, give us the URL of your
po file. Making corrections to the big localize.sdf is also possible
until further notice -- send URLs of the updated file or patch. I'll
take care of your submissions.

In regards of the freeze / required review in the libreoffice-3-3
branch I quote Petr Mladek:
"I think that the review is is not needed for translators. These are
usually pretty safe changes. Translators might fight on the
regional mailing lists about wording ;-)" -- so, feel free to work on
improving your localization.

Thanks,
Andras

hi,

we localizers wanna fight for having localized help in the builds - it
looks as if it wasn't transalted at all and as such becomes a
localization team problem instead of the build team problem. Is LO 3.3
meant to be released without the possibility of having a localized
help? It is a stopper, at least for Slovenian LO.

I agree with you. However, I think your demand will be fulfilled.
RC1 does not include help (not even English). Wiki help is not working
at the moment but the URL suggests that it will handle localizations.
See e.g.: http://help.libreoffice.org/swriter/start?Language=en&System=WIN
I must note that developing Wiki help was not a transparent process, but
I do hope that after all it will be a good solution.

Andras

Hello,

can you explain a little about this help issue? There will be no help
in 3.3? Only online help, requiring an internet connection? That does
sound like a real stopper, right?

I do not mind having all the help also available online, even better
and really needed, if LO becomes a server app sometimes, but offline
help is a necessity for an offline office suite.

Sorry, I'm not in charge of the help, I'm just a volunteer like you and
I know little about the plans.

It is a serious mistake to assume that every computer is conected to the internet.

It is just not the case for emerging and developing countries.

In these countries wideband internet costs a lot and is used by very few. For the very same reason, could computing will not fly that soon there.

I urge to reconsider not bundling the Help system in the package.

Very bad, very bad.

For me too, obviously.

Besides developing and emerging countries, what about if LibO is used in
public offices with internet restrictions?

By the way, can anyone explain which are the technical issues regarding not
bundling the localized help in the package (if I've well understood).

Regards,

Andras, this is in reference to the referenced document:

Is this document really representing the opinion of the LO community
and the native-lang teams?

I especially like the first footnote, a reference to one's own blog
and a survey from 2004? Should LO even have online help and manuals,
if those numbers are representative? Why have help and manuals, maybe
even the GUI can be limited to icons only, so no translation is
necessary and lang-teams get obsolete?

If there are build issues etc. with different language versions they
should be resolved in accord with the lang teams, not in view of only
cutting the building and downloading costs. If it is not possible to
offer full 100% localized builds at this time, then LO should say
openly that 3.3 will be an English only version and that the localized
versions will follow with the next version, 3.4 or 4.0 or whatever its
version is. And what is wrong with providing only EN builds and
different lang-packs for Windows as is the case with other languages?

Hi Andras, all.

I'm almost sure that I've followed all the steps to get Asturian
language translated, but still I can't see an *.ast* language pack
available for rc1.

Do I need to do something else to have LO available in Asturian?

Thank you in advance. Best regards,

This must be a bug. Thanks for reporting.

Your translation is part of the 3.3 tag, so I guess it will be fixed soon
with the bug Andras have reported.
