The only problem is that I can't get to LibreOffice to change the
options. Is there a way to do it with its configuration
files/Windows' registry?

My config file
  <user_profile>/config/javasettings_Linux_x86.xml
has a line
  <enabled xsi:nil="false">true</enabled>

Check the md5sum of your downloaded copy.
Turn off all virus scanning during the installation process.
Kill all soffice processes in the task manager.
Run the installation.

I did. :frowning:

So your system does not accept this software. You never have a well defined environment under MS Windows. Too many system tools and black boxes are interfering with each other. Could it be that your hardware is about to break?

I will try that if the file exists. Wait, what's the filename for this?
I remember seeing my local user profile's LibreOffice account has stuff
in it.

I doubt it. Other programs worked fine. OpenOffice worked fine before I
uninstalled it and replaced it with LO.

I don't see any javasettings* file in my Windows machine. Maybe LO
didn't see it before the startup crash? :frowning:

FYI thanks to Tom Davies' e-mailed suggestions (I thought we were still
conversing on the public mailing list and replied to the wrong thread
should be in my original one]):

1. Uninstalling Java did not fix the problem. Installing u32 did not
help which is not a surprise.

2. Portable LibreOffice v3.4.5 and v3.5.2 without installed LO did
crashed too. HOWEVER, portable v3.3.4 worked. I believe this is close to
OpenOffice v3.3.0 I had installed and working before I tried LO. Were
there major changes after v3.3.(0/4) or something for LO?

3. I reported my issue to as a bug at
https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=49499 ...
Hopefully, someone (a developer) else can help (no replies/updates so
far). :frowning:

Follow your bug report. They are asking for information.

I already gave that requested information out in my original bug report
(read the whole thing? :P). I just ran CCleaner to remove HDD and
registry left overs. No fix. :frowning:

Yes I did. And it rambles on just like your messages do here.

This list, IIUC, is a 'how do I do this' type of help list populated
mostly with fellow users. From the other posts it is fairly obvious that
ho one else has, or has had, this problem.

The LO Bugzilla is the place to get help with problems like you
describe. Where the developers hang out. My suggestion? Follow the bug
and do what the developers ask you to do *if* you are really looking for
a solution.

Or don't. Your choice.

Hi
Have you ever used a Gnu&Linux before, such as Ubuntu or something?  Do you know how to run a LiveCd session without installing it and without it touching your hard-drive at all?

If so then it might be good to use a LiveCd or LiveUsb session to scan the hard-drive to see if there is a problem with it.  Perhaps do an antivirus scan at the same time (well, shortly after as it's best to let GPartEd do it's thing without touching the hard-drive in any other way at the same time.).

I tend not to use Ubuntu for this sort of thing.  It's too heavy and takes ages as a LiveCd and doesn't get to the LiveCd session unless you first choose to install it and then use the back-button to get back to the pop-up that gives a choice to "Try it".  Every other distro i have tried does a better LiveCd session and usually gets straight into the LiveCd session without any effort at all.  So, for this sort of thing i would probably use Trinity Rescue Kit.
http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=trinity
but there are a lot of choices out there and we probably each have our own favourites.

Regards from
Tom

Um, why? If I had problems, then LO wouldn't be the only with problems.
Everything else is working fine.

Well, from this logic, you could say that if LO had problems, everyone
would have a problem, but it's working fine for everyone else

The issue is somewhere between LO and your system, so ruling out the OS is
not a bad idea.
For example, when a system got a faulty RAM module, it could work fine most
of the time but crash under some load (and LO is quite the load...).

Well, I do play computer games like Diablo 3 stress test. Games are
heavy loads. I run VMware Workstation v4.5.3, video stuff (record MPEG-2
and TS to encode, decode, etc.). Those are heavy loads too.
