To unsubscribe, e-mail to users+help@libreoffice.org

Multiple attempts to unsubscribe by emailing to users+help@libreoffice.org have been unsuccessful. But it's no big deal. I'll just keep unsubscribing daily until it works. Have a good day. Steve

What do you mean by unsuccessful?
Did you receive the automatic reply that you have to confirm, before you get unsubscribed?

Are you receiving the normal mails or the digest?

You can add me to the list of users who have clicked the link "To unsubscribe, e-mail to users+help@libreoffice.org" without receiving automatic replay that needs to be confirmed before one is unsubscribed. To the best of my ability I have been receiving the normal mails not the digest.

No.

To quote from the "Welcome" message:

Welcome! You have been subscribed to the

users@libreoffice.org

mailinglist.

To unsubscribe send a message to:

users+unsubscribe@libreoffice.org

And for help send a message to:

users+help@libreoffice.org

Clearly the message trailer is wrong; the correct link for unsubscribing should be the actual "unsubscribe" one shown above. But the "help" should also yield a message with details of the supported command addresses, including how to unsubscribe. I haven't tried that yet -- does it not yet work?

the +help address is mentioned in the footer, as the unsubscription for digest and non-digest readers is different. The +help message explains it.

Since the community seems to have control over these messages, I'd like to see the trailer say:

For help with list usage, including how to subscribe or unsubscribe, please e-mail to users+help@libreoffice.org.
List archives are available at http://www.libreoffice.org/lists/users/
All messages you send to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted.

That would avoid the implication that the +help message will actually unsubscribe them -- which might also perturb people who want to stay subscribed but need other help! Alternatively, both forms of the unsubscribe could be supplied, people presumably would know which one they need. But the +help would probably still be relevant as a trailer, so it's getting pretty cumbersome. I do appreciate that the trailer has the double-dash prefix that will keep it from getting replicated ad infinitum in the archives!

Since you seem to know what's going on here, is the discuss list subscription working yet? Also, does the message number used in the +get track directly with the archive, or does it need to come from the Return-Path header as for openoffice.org? Are analogs to the other ezmlm command addresses planned?

Why even have to send an email to users+help@libreoffice.org begin with?
That's IMO just plain silly. If there are multiple uninstall email
addresses then provide a link to a *proper* mail list page that explains
in *detail* how to unsubscribe (list, digest, whatever).

The better method would be do do as the dev list does and use mailman:
http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice
where the user can set their own preferences, unsubscribe, etc.

This continuing of having to subscribe w/nomail for gmane.org access,
issues with unsubscribing, etc., is a reminder of email lists gone bad
w/OOo.

Hi Barbara,

So, we had to keep it rather short.

But let's see and improve the footer step by step. Maybe the idea with a dedicated mailing list page is good.

Since you seem to know what's going on here, is the discuss list
subscription working yet? Also, does the message number used in the +get

Err, sure, it always worked? discuss+subscribe@documentfoundation.org

track directly with the archive, or does it need to come from the
Return-Path header as for openoffice.org? Are analogs to the other ezmlm
command addresses planned?

At the moment, the Return Path header is the one containing the right ID, I guess.

In that case, to avoid awkward breaks, how about "E-mail to users+help@libreoffice.com for help with list usage, including how to subscribe or unsubscribe." Or leave out the "including" phrase in my original suggestion. Saying that's how to get help is accurate, and much less confusing than implying that it will unsubscribe you.

But let's see and improve the footer step by step. Maybe the idea with a dedicated mailing list page is good.

Could you expand on that, please?

When I first tried, at the same time I subscribed here, I got an "undelivered" message:

<discuss+subscribe@libreoffice.org>: host libreoffice.org[178.63.91.70] said:
     550 5.1.1<discuss+subscribe@libreoffice.org>: Recipient address rejected:

Hence my question. Tried again just now and got the confirmation message, though.

I just did a small change - see the footer of this mail. Hope this is better understandable.

I guess that having a page with all mailing lists available, including their URLs and archives is a good idea. But let's wait with that until our CMS is running -- the current listing on the website is just a temporary solution.

When I first tried, at the same time I subscribed here, I got an
"undelivered" message:

Strange... should work, and never heard about this error before.

... and the other command addresses (index, thread, etc.)?

Sorry?

Definitely an improvement, thanks! I sure appreciate your responsiveness.

Yes, it could be like the one on the openoffice.org website but with unsubscribe mailto's as well. Are you referring here to putting a link to that page in the message footer? Sounds like a plan! And it could index into the FAQ, too.

I seem to remember somebody else mentioning this on the OOo users list, but in any case we seem to be OK now.

Sorry?

If you send a message to users-help@openoffice.org, you'll see some other commands that don't seem to be supported yet for the LibO list management (at least from its own help). Some of them might be useful.

thanks.

Exactly. When that page is ready, removing the +help address, but rather pointing to that page could be helpful. Something like:

"Information on unsubscribing and accessing the archives are available at: ..."

I seem to remember somebody else mentioning this on the OOo users list,
but in any case we seem to be OK now.

Ok, let me know if it occurs again.

Oh, no, not right now, unfortunately. But we're working closely with the mlmmj developers to implement new features. In fact, one script written by my colleague Alex, which stripts HTML and attachments out of mails, already made it into their contrib tree.

It would sure be nice to be able to unsubscribe.Following info fromusers+help@libreoffice.orgresults in the following from "Hi, this is the mlmmj program managing the mailinglistusers@libreoffice.orgYou are not subscribed to this list, so you cannot unsubscribe. Hi Ed,

It would sure be nice to be able to unsubscribe.Following info

if you have the digest, write to

users+unsubscribe-digest@libreoffice.org

Otherwise, write to

users+unsubscribe@libreoffice.org

You will receive an e-mail you need to confirm, then you're unsubscribed.

Florian

Thank you. Worked fine when using the proper address.
