Update the website

Hi,

I think the following page should be updated:

http://www.libreoffice.org/download/?type=win-x86&lang=en-US&version=4.0.0

Download LibreOffice
This is a pre-release version not meant for general use.

LibreOffice Windows, version 4.0.0, English (US). Not the version you wanted? Change System, Version or Language

This is LibreOffice 3.6.0, prepared with care and presented with pride by the LibreOffice community. But since this is the very first version in the 3.6 series, please make sure you read the release notes (see right).

LibreOffice is made available by volunteers around the globe, backed by a charitable Foundation.

Regards,
C. H. D.

Incorrect text aside, preferred download link probably would be http://www.libreoffice.org/download/pre-releases/

Stuart

In addition to the fact that it is NOT version 3.6.0 it should be written in
BIG LETTERS that this is a BETA build!

It's not even a Release Candidate!!!

The list should show 4.0.0Beta2

And the download page should say

LibreOffice Windows, version 4.0.0 Beta 2, English (US)

No, it should not. To get to this page you must go through
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/?type=win-x86&lang=en-US
which clearly states that 4.0.0 is not finished yet.

There is no need to say it again right on next page. We can assume that users
are intelligent enough to remember and does not suffer from problems with
short-term memory.

That page only mentions

" Pre-releases

Below, you can download a pre-release of the next version of LibreOffice for
evaluation, QA testing, etc. These versions are not meant for general use."

It does not say that the currently available build is a BETA

A BETA Release is NOT in the same league as a Release Candidate

But if you think that is irrelevant, suit yourself...

It says 'Pre-releases', not 'Release Candidates'...

A pre-release (think 'Alpha' releases) can be even more buggy/error prone than a BETA...

It is very relevant, but you have to understand the terms for the context. You are complaining because you apparently are equating 'pre-release' with 'release candidate'...

But it says that this is not stable, it is for "testing" and it is NOT "for
general use". These are most important information here.

If user just want to download app, then he want to know where is stable
release. Why do you think that TDF should force users to know anything about
software release process and differences between alpha, beta and release
candidate builds? As long as these are "not for general use", most people
don't care.

And people who do care - well, they can get information and links to certain
builds elsewhere (like TDF wiki).

I don't see a point in cluttering download page with irrelevant information.
People already have problems with choosing right version and finding download
link. Creating more complex descriptions won't help them.

All Pre-Release versions are available on that same page regardless if they
are Alpha, Beta or RC.

I am saying this because I have previous experience

I thought it was better to be more specific but maybe Miroslaw is right that
"creating more complex descriptions won't help"

In any case the text on the Download page needs to be corrected. IMO it is
NOT enough to replace 3.6.0 with 4.0.0

It should read

"This is *a Pre-Release version of the upcoming* LibreOffice 4.0.0, prepared
with care and presented with pride by the LibreOffice community. But since
this is the *Pre-Release version of the* very first version in the 4.0
series, please make sure you read the release notes (see right). "

BTW The link on the right "Release Notes", links to the release notes of the
Stable version 3.6.4...
I suggest that it points to
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/4.0

Cheers,
Pedro

Hi
Lol, that was a better move than me.  I just copied the thread to the websites list where it could just vanish into the ether, even if i didn't mess up the name of the list this time.
