Updating LibreOffice on Windows machines

O
n my Linux (Linux Mint 17.1) boxes I encounter no problems at all ; with
the LibreOffice PPA installed I always get the latest and greatest in a
timely manner. With Windows, however, it's a different story. Thus today,
when I noticed that version 4.4.2.2 is now available from the LO website, I
first attempted to update directly from my current version, 4.4.1.2, but
received the message that «LibreOffice 4.4 is updated», which was
manifestly not the case. Hence I was forced to manually update from the
website. Not of course, a difficult to thing to do, but why have a «Search
for updates» button under «Help» if it doesn't do what it claims to do ? Or
is it the case that I'm alone with this problem, and that updates proceed
swimmingly in Windows for other users ?...

Let me here
 point out
that I
fully
realise that this is a minor problem, that I greatly appreciate the work
that the LibreOffice developers do, and that I recommend - and help
install, when requested - it to all of the retirees whom I help with their
computer problems....

@Henri,

Please verify that the account you were attempting the update from is in the
Windows Administrators group.

If not, login with a different account that is (perhaps activate the
Administrator account), launch LibreOffice there. And then attempt update
from main menu Help -> Check for updates.

Let us know how that goes.

Thanks for your speedy reply, Stuart !

To be more specific, I'm running LibreOffice on a 64-bit Windows 8.1
machine with three local accounts installed, mine having administrator's
privileges according to the User Account section of the Control Panel, the
which I can confirm by the fact that the Windows UAC doesn't require me to
log in with another password when downloading, e g, LibreOffice from the LO
website....

This is not the first time I have encountered this problem, but I had hoped
that within the 4.4 series, I'd be able to update using the LO tool. Alas,
such was not the case....

Am I to understand from your reply that you yourself don't encounter this
problem when updating LO ?...

Henri

@Henri,

Nope, it is not you, or your system. Seems the Check for Updates has gone
wonky again.

Submitted tdf#90456
<https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90456> -- Check for
updates on Windows release builds responding "... up to Date".
