Using the TOC/Index function.

Hi all

I've been looking for a way to index my monthly Journal I edit in Scribus.

I have managed to get the Scribus function working, (after a battle), but two problems remain.

1) In all my Paragraph Styles the 'Fill Character' is greyed-out!!
How do I activate this?

2) The created Index is in page order and not Alphabetical order.
Can this be changed?

[My Scribus version is 1.4.3 on PClinuxOS 2013.08]

Thanks for any help.

Hi
At a guess Scribus probably have their own forum/mailing-list and you
might get better answers from them.

Are you creating the document in Writer first and then opening it with
Scribus later on? Did the Scribus document start as a fresh document
within Scribus and using their native format or did it start out in
another program such as Word?

I found that of the few documents i have trouble with in Writer if i
start a fresh new document and then copy&paste in the old contents
using "Paste as unformatted text" then almost all troubles i've had
with the document vanish. A couple of times i've done that within
LibreOffice. Going from the 1st branch, 3.3.x, to 3.4.x or either of
those to a 4.x.x it seems to help to go through that process again.
The 3.3.x seemed very unripe, but all later ones have drastically
reduced the occasional need for that sort of faffing around.

So with a different program i would advise creating a fresh document
in that program and then try to bring in elements with as little
formatting as possible. Ideally go back to original images rather
than moving them from one document to the next.

That seems to raise the quality from 80-90% up to around 99% on those
rare documents that seem grumpy about weird things.

Hi
I am hoping to move the company newsletter to Scribus, or something.

A couple of years ago we moved it to LibreOffice from MS Office and
since then many people have commented on the vast improvement in
quality. Also it takes just a couple of days now where it used to
take 1-2 weeks. Plus it opens on all machines without crashing any of
them. When i was first given the hopeless mess i had to use one of
the worst machines in the building and i'd have to reboot Windows
several times per day.

To be fair when i moved it to LibreOffice i was also able to do neat
little tricks like removing 2 or 3 bars of single colour that were
each a separate image of around 200Kb each and replace with 1 gif of 1
pixel x 1 pixel. Also swapped out many of the logos for better
quality ones of a more suitable size. Where LO really scored was in
allowing much greater precision in placing logos neatly rather than
just plonking them down.

However even before those neat tricks, and even when i was still using
the MS format, LO still allowed me to use the same machine without
crashing until around the end-of-day.

Hi

Errr, i just meant to say thanks! Also to say that feedback about how
Scribus compares with LO might be appreciated!

Please ignore my previous post in this thread!
