where is the guidelines on what to put on a CD/DVD distro of LibreOffice?

Hi Tim:

Not sure if you know this but you can find some documentation here:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation#Available_User_Documentation

You may want to look around the wiki on the documentation section. There may be other files you may want to point to. The "Getting Started With LibreOffice 3.3" is completely finished and can also be purchased from Lulu.com: http://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/getting-started-with-libreoffice-33/14703788

Re: OpenCliparts.com . I usually install this package:
http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/14906526/dir/pclinuxos/com/libreoffice-openclipart-3-1pclos2010.noarch.rpm.html All of the cliparts are inserted into the right locations and appear in the Gallery correctly. Works well on my Mandriva 2010.2

Cheers

Marc

Hi Tim:

Not sure if you know this but you can find some documentation here:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation#Available_User_Documentation

I have seen this and add the PDF files to my documentation folder. I added OOo's Writer guide [02's], Calc guide [03's]. Draw guide [04's], Impress guide [05's], and Math [08's].

Since LibreOffice has only the 01's for the "Getting Started" guide list on the above site, and OOo's documentation is similar enough to use as a guide, I thought that it would be OK. I also have a readme file stating that LibreOffice's document writers have just started with writing the LibreOffice specific documentation and these people makeup many of the writers of the OOo documentation. I also state that the OOo guides are OK to use until LibreOffice's document writers finish those other documentation "books" or guides for each part of LibreOffice.

I did not include that guide since I did not purchase a copy. I downloaded the free guides instead.

I did not list that info since I use Ubuntu's .deb install. I know that there are clipart galleries that are a part of the installs, or as an add on. I have added one listed as "OOOP Gallery Pack" to my extension folder of the extensions I usually install when I install it for my systems and others.

Hi,

I've forwarded your mail to the germanspeaking discuss-list, where the members of the "box-team" are very active.

I'm sure, that one of them will reply soon to your offer, Tim.

Sigrid

Thanks. I will be doing some more work on it before I start making a install document stating which folder contains what items.

Hi Tim, *,

Sigrid forwarded an info of the DVD discussion here..

You obviously need to get official labels and stuff but there is no
need to download packages. There is already an all_platform DVD

Maybe it hasn't been announced but it's there since Feb 5th

That link shows an All platform ISO but it also shows a "de"
language code in the file name. Since I am in the USA and we use
English, for the most part, in my area of New York State I would
prefer to have a English CD or DVD ISO file if I do no make my own.

[..stuff..]

If you're interested, Friedrich and Erich together with Uwe (they did
most of the work for this ISO) will gladly help you, if you want to
lend a hand to create a "truly" English version of the ISO.

I can confirm that ;o))

Email me off the list at "webmaster@krackedpress.com" and we can
"talk" some more about this. Thanks.

I'm not subscribed to this list, said I get no mails from it, so I'll do
so. You can email us at "team@libreofficebox.org" if You intend to win
the race ;o)).

There is a need or an English, and/or a multi-language ISO file that
has the software in the languages used and the add on extensions,
documentation, and templates in those different languages.

definitly it is.

I mainly deal with an all English version, but the "official" site
could have an ISO to be downloaded that has the top 5 or 10 languages
and their versions of the documents and such included. That would be
a good way to market the product.

Agreed, because a DVD is the only way to get "in touch" with the
software itself.
It can serve even people, which don't understand to download and install
from internet or even don't like to do so.

[..]

We plan to launch an international/english version of our box an we
would indeed be glad to have You on board and - of course - everyone
else interested to give a hand to achive that.

An english version is not only to serve the english speaking world but
on top of that to enable other native language teams to launch an own
project based on the international one - even if not able to read german
;o)).

So I look forward to talk about what we already have and what's
missing.

Please note: I'm not subscriber of this list. So CC me if You want me to
read someting.

Gruß/regards

Hi Sigrid:

I wasn't sure who to leave this with. Could you also send along a note to the German team that the included PhotoAlbum extension returns a "Basic" error? So it is unusable as is. They may want to fix the problem or exclude it from the pack. It is a shame as it is a really useful extension. Note that I did not install LibreOffice 3.3 from the disc as I had already installed it.

Pass on my congratulations to the German team. A really excellent disc.

Thanks

Marc

Done. I've forwarded your message as well.
I am sure, that they will be very happy to read that it's an excellent disc. They've put quite a lot of work into it.

Hi,

Did not see where the subject of the disc being produced by the North
American team (on the US Marketing mailing list) has been mentioned, I may
of missed it though.

For a reference on the ISO image please see this thread:
http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Pulling-a-disc-together-for-SCALE-td2391597.html

This has English, Spanish and French files.

That image is being updated to the current 3.3.1 RC1 and will be updated
again as the 3.3.1 release proceeds.

It is not available for download yet - but very quickly after the release of
3.3.1 it will be.

Still working on the wrapper for the DVD ( i.e what to autostart - simple
HTML interface) and will be doing that in earnest over these next few days
with collaboration on the that Mailing list - I encourage those interested
in this to come get involved this weekend. (will get into it first thing
Sat. morning on the list)

There is community branded DISC art work available also - works good with
press on labels.

What's up with having the pdf open in full screen view mode? This really
creates issues with evince. Adobe Reader & Okular have options to stop
the presentation mode, but evince does not.

I did not know that there was any one else working on a English version DVD. I would like to talk to the "North American Team" about what can or should be done for just a DVD of LibreOffice.

I am working on making an English-Only DVD for LibreOffice [at least for my area]. I have the 32 and 64 bit DEB and RPM installs, plus both Mac installs, along with Windows. I added en-US, en-GB, and en-ZA language and help packs. Since my documents, templates, and other stuff is in English, I did not add any other language packs to this disc.

I have a folder with many different templates, one with clipart and images. and one with extensions. I want to go over my selections for many of the clipart, extensions, and templates, to decide which ones I really want to have on this DVD.

The documentation folder is as follows:
0100-LibreOffice--Getting-Started
0100-OpenOffice--Getting-Started
0200-LibreOffice--Writer-Guide--word-processor
0200-OpenOffice--Writer-Guide--word-processor
0300-OpenOffice--Calc-Guide--spreadsheet
0400-OpenOffice--Draw-Guide--drawing-package
0500-OpenOffice--Impress-Guide--presentation
0800-OpenOffice--Math-Guide--equation-editor

plus a folder of some Base documents, plus a few other PDFs that have documents. I did figure on having a script saying that LO writers were also OOo writers and until LO documents get finished, OOo's version will work for now.

I want to create some HTML document[s] that will help users install the packages for their platforms. I do not know much about Mac or RPM installs, so I will need help with that part. I would be nice to have some detailed walk-though instructions for installation, such as installing a JRE before you install LibreOffice. I have the latest one in the Windows folder.

The label you made for your discs are nice, but I do not have a ink-jet printer that prints directly onto the media. I found that paper labels tend to bubble up after a period of time making the disc unusable [not safe to use in the reader]. I do use Light-Scribe but it is a long process to burn a monochrome label on a disc [16 to 25 minutes per disc for any good label].

As for going from the current version 3.3.0 to 3.3.1 or beyond, I just need to download the up-to-date installs and any changes to the help and language packs, the place them in the proper folder. As more of the documentation gets done, I will add it as I find it available.

It would be nice to get farther along with this project, but with my injuries, etc., I cannot spend much time in front of my desktop doing all the things I want to do. I hope to make the basic HTML file in the next few days. I will be re-looking at all of the extensions available and decide what I want to include and make sure there is text with each one describing each one. Then there is the templates and such. I will have to make hard decisions on which to use and which are not going to be needed by those that will get the discs. What I want and need may not be useful to others.

hmm - well, it wasn't an evil plan
- although sounds like you should open an issue with evince, don't think
I've ever had the pleasure of using that..
- will recreate that file, sans, the full screen mode then, look for an
update, in a few minutes

and BTW - on behalf of the guys (Mark, Jeff, Carl, Italo, he who shall
remain unknown :-/, and myself)
Your welcome.

Howdy Tim,

Well - I would really prefer you bring the conversation over on the US
Marketing list and let's look at, all that, over the weekend.

Back to this thread - sorry to hear you are under the weather, I wish you a
speedy recovery.

Much of what you mention in your last email is exactly what needs to be
created for this disc, for hand out at the SoCal Linux Expo in 2 weeks (less
actually) time - nothing helps to get the work done then a hard delivery
date, hey.

- so again, come by that list over weekend and we can help each other out.
For sure, though, one of us will put another email to the users list when
the image is available.

Finally - as for your thought that others would not necessarily benefit from
your take on 'the appropriate' mix for a distribution disc, I would
respectfully disagree and would encourage sharing with others details. Do
not be surprised at all if others find what you are doing useful.

Best wishes,

Drew
