[Win LO4.1.3] All symbols in autocorrect

You should be able to change fonts to suit whatever you're working
on at the time -
[go to options to set accordingly first]

then with the most appropriate font, you can add to it by
clicking on 'character map' which will pop up a box containing various
additions -
for example, if you wish to add the letters which contain
various above or below characters, as found in the Romance languages.
[start -> character map -> scroll through box]

BTW - you're English is fine; but please don't use NAZI again

I would like to use several symbols in LO. I use autocorrect a lot, like /^ would do North-East arrow, and \v South-East arrow. Unfortunately, I can only choose the "Segoe UI" font in autocorrect "insert symbol" right-click menu, and SE arrow does not exist in it.

There is a workaround for this. Place the required symbol in a text (Writer) document - in an appropriate font - and select it. Now go to Tools | AutoCorrect Options... | Replace, and you will find that the required character has already been entered in the With: field. Continue as expected.

Also, this SE arrow shows weirdly in some fonts (I use Times New Roman), sometime disappearing (leaving an ugly square), sometimes shrinking. Is this a known bug ?

Not all characters exist in all fonts. If you change to a font in which the character does not appear, there will be nothing to display.

Is there any workaround ?

Yes: use a font in which the character exists.

I trust this helps.

There are some fonts that are filled with arrows and not letters. One of the best I use is called "arrowfont.ttf", since it is only the same type of arrow but pointing in most every direction you might need an arrow to point towards. There are others though.

Also, if you have a good Unicode font, there are sections that have various arrow "styled" glyphs.

Here are the "section" titles and their glyph ranges in the Unicode definition.

Arrows
Range: 2190--21FF

Supplemental Arrows-A
Range: 27F0--27FF

Supplemental Arrows-B
Range: 2900--297F

Miscellaneous Symbols and Arrows
Range: 2B00--2BFF

Thank you all for your responses

Unfortunately, the very problem is that I cannot change the font I'm using
in autocorrect, whatever I do :frowning:
I'm sticked to Segoe UI, and Google does not seem to know anyone else that
have the same problem.

I try to be more precise (and hope the translation will be alright) :

Replace --> you have 2 inputs : "replace" and "by"

In the "by" input --> right-click>insert symbol
Then the drop-down list of font in upper-left is grey and unclickable, and
selecting Segoe UI, a very poor font in arrow symbols.

I really don't understand why. And this is the only place this problem
appears, I can change the font anywhere else to any font.

About the font that don't have the symbols I want, I will consider changing,
and I think I will even try to create a big font with all symbols I want
when I have some time, I heard about some softwares which can do it.

But still, if I cannot change the font, I'm affraid that this would be
useless...

Thank you very much again

That's why I offered you a workaround (in my message of 20 November) that doesn't require this:
o Place the required symbol in a text (Writer) document - in an appropriate font.
o Select it.
o Now go to Tools | AutoCorrect Options... | Replace, and you will find that the required character has already been entered in the With: field. Don't worry about the font.
o Continue as expected.

What happened when you tried this?

Brian Barker

Yes, of course it works, thank you
Until now I copy-pasted from internet inside the input instead of selecting
from Segoe UI, but your way is better.
But it's still not very handy so I would like to choose another font.

I got to the autocorrect file, but it's a .dat file and sadly I cannot
modify it with notepad.

Hi
I think Brian's way might not be so easy to set-up but once done it
means you can keep using the 1 font. I don't know if there is a font
with all the characters you need. It is possible you might need to
add characters to any of them. Also i don't think you need to know
all the characters you need in advance as you can add them later as
you find them.

Once you have a character set in the AutoCorrect thing it stays there
so you soon find you have already gathered all the extra ones you
needed.

Sorry, i'm not sure that is helpful!
Apols and regards from
