Windows 64 bit builds born. Really and long last!

Hi Everyone!

Yesterday evening I take a look to LibreOffice 4.5.x initial release note page:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/4.5

And scrolling down the page I see, among the likely concrete 4.5 targets, the Windows 64 build!!!
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/msvc-x86_64
http://ostrovsky.org/libo/LibreOfficeDev_4.5.0.0.alpha0_Win_x64.2015-02-18.msi

I think no more main releases could be skipped again. No more!

I ask myself if this is a "Collabora" contribution like the Android viewer that is a 4.5.x based build too:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.collabora.libreoffice
https://libreoffice-from-collabora.com/
or something else...

In any case, I am very happy for all of us! I will test my bugs in that build too and report the results in the bug tracker.

Have a nice evening,

Carlo

@Carlo, *

The port to 64-bit Windows has been chiefly the work of David Ostrovsky,
one of our unaffiliated devs.

The 2015-02-18 build is stable, and should now install the required 64-bit
MS Visual C++ 2013 runtime.

The build uses the full core source tree--its all there and works. But there
are liable to be some "gotchas" going forward with 64-bit on Windows--so be
warned.

Please follow developments on the Wiki:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/msvc-x86_64

Bug submissions against the build are appreciated. Also, look for
announcements of a TinderBox nightly spin being available.

Stuart

Thank you very much Stuart!

Hi,

Will add the x64 Thinderbox tomorrow to SI-GUI  I guess the runtime has to be installed manually though....

Liebe Grüße / Yours,
Florian Reisinger

Hi
Fantastic! Another big thanks to our devs and in this case an especially
huge thanks to David Ostrovsky - also to the Collabora team again for the
Android re-write.

Many thanks David Ostrovsky!! :)))

Hi Everyone!

Of course and first of all, many thanks to David Ostrovsky!!!

I see the tinderbox is active!

Thanks to Florian Reisinger, I think!

I have learnt what a tinderbox is:

Thanks to You and Mozilla too!!!

I remember some our old others win64 discusses...
2013-11: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/64-bit-tp4081444.html
2012-11: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Win64-Scribus-too-tp4016487.html
2011-11: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Will-win64-native-build-exist-on-3-5-0-or-at-least-3-5-x-releases-tp3473463.html

We have to suffer many time in the underground before seeing the Sun, the Sky and the Stars! (Dante Alighieri's "Divina Commedia" personal rearrangement... "E di nuovo uscimmo a veder le stelle...")

I think the LibreOffice builds now are "quite" complete and a very professional offer! We have made a great work and we (and Others more) could all change-the-world over and over again!

Have All a sunny day!

Yes, I remember it too. I guess the fact that such a build exists is proof
that the usual "amount of time to develop a true 64 bit version (...) would
be IMMENSE" and "such a product would be incredibly costly" arguments were
just not true.

Kudos to Davis Ostrovsky and everyone else involved in this build.

Hi
I suspect editing and stuff got muddled there! From the general tone of
your email i suspect you meant
"
that the usual "amount of time to develop a true 64 bit version (...) would
be IMMENSE" and "such a product would be incredibly costly" arguments WERE
true.
"
After all it has taken a long time and we can see one issue that sounds
like it was probably quite tricky to resolve already.
