[writer] Moving a frame with a table in

Hi,

LibO 3.4.5 (official)
Xubuntu 10.04

I meet a problem when trying to move frames with embedded tables.

Moving a frame using direction keys is straightforward. Combined with [Alt] we can move the frame in small increments.

Strangely, when the frame holds a table, the [Alt]+direction key will not move the frame any more, but it will redimension the embedded table instead.

Note: this only happens if the table is not preceeded by any character (eg: no end-of-paragraph mark)

I guess this is a bug. Anyone seeing this, too?

Mmm, that's weird. I'm using LibO 3.4.4 in Ubuntu 11.10.
To correct it,

1. Do not highlight the frame.
2. Move your cursor to outside of table, and inside of frame (to below
    the table perhaps)
3. Then [Alt]+direction key works fine.

To what is the frame anchored? If anchored as a character, the only
way to move the frame seems to be cut and paste. Anchoring to a
character allows me to use the direction arrows to move the frame.
Anchoring to a paragraph or page will allow me to do the same.
My test frame contained a table, one cell of which contained a
3100x2300, 5.8MB picture.

Frame is anchored to page or to paragraph so that it's free to move anywhere.
Using just arrows works alright. But if you try to fine tune the movement with "<Alt>+arrow" it's not working properly.

When I am fine tuning where I place a frame, I right click the
frame and select Frame. The Type tab contains a Position section that
permits you to place the frame with an accuracy of 0.01cm (I use the
metric system for things like this for placement.)

Ha ha! Yeah, right. Thanks.

This works. IMO this is counter-intuitive: moving/acting against a frame/whatever is done by selecting the widget, isn't it?

I do, too. But the use of selection/action with the mouse is quite common, so I thought I'd mention this strange behaviour.

Drawback: doesn't work when there's nothing but the table within the frame.

Mmm, that's weird, too. Because it works for me.
I just opened up new document, insert new frame, insert a table in frame. No content whatsoever.
How did you anchor your frame? Anchor as character will not work obviously.

No other character (incl. end-of-paragraph mark) before/after the table?

I've tried all anchoring options. And yes, As character won't work, as designed.
