Writer - Tables and row spacing question

I have a table with 3 columns. In the first column, I have 7 rows. Total height of the column is @5.5".

The first 6 rows are about .5" in height. The 7th row uses the remainder of the height of the table.

I want to adjust the height of all 7 rows so all of the rows are the same height but maintain the original table height of @5.5".

I thought Table>Autofit>Distribute Rows Equally would adjust all of the row heights to fit into the 5.5" height of the table. Instead, it expanded the height of the table and made all 7 rows the same as the original height of row 7. Not what I wish to do.

I want to be able to do this *after* the cells contain data, not before data is entered. This is to cover the possibility of creating X rows initially, and discovering later you actually need X+Y rows.

I have figured out how to do this before the cells have any data in them.

I've found some other "not so good" oddities about tables and modifying them, but haven't the time to troubleshoot. :frowning:

Hi
Ken, did you manage to evenly space the rows and columns as you wanted to?
Regards from
Tom

Given the way you worded the question, it's yes and no.

Yes, I got what I wanted.

No, not the way I wanted to do it.

It seems, if you want to do the way I needed/desired to do it, can't be done. If you don't have it right to begin with, you pretty much have to keep starting over to get what you want. :frowning:

I think you found a Bug

The Autofit Columns does exactly what you expected (and in my opinion is
what Distribute Evenly means) so this odd behaviour has to be a bug.

Can you report this at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ ?

I think you're right, Pedro! LOL And 4 or 5 more, too. :frowning:

So, you tried autofiting columns and it worked as I/we expect it to?

Did you try my instructions? I'm just curious.

Can you report this at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ ?

Is this essentially the same place as reporting through the LO system?

Yes and yes. I was also puzzled that it resized the line height of the rows
in such a way that the table was expanded to several pages

This is the LO system. You can use the nice LO form instead
https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/bug/

Please post a link to the bug report on this topic after you have finished.

Hi
The freedesktop place is the link given in the guide
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport
but i think the guide is quite useful even if you are fairly familiar with posting bug-reports.

I finally had the time to create a Bugzilla account and file the bug.

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44871

I did get a good laugh during the account creation process. I did a search on the terms "distribute rows equally", and got the result that Zarros Boogs were found.

Methinks some translations need to be looked at!!

No one needs to think I'm taking issue with anyone's English speaking ability, I'm not. I just found the words to be funny.

Excellent. I took the liberty of changing the Bug title. "Tables" isn't very
clear (imagine that you are searching for your own bug). Renamed it to
"Distribute rows equally doesn't respect total table size"

Zarro Boogs is a deliberate mistake

Thank you for contributing to the LO development

Hi
Brilliant, thanks Pedro :)  I really like OpenSource for this sort of thing.  I'm not so keen on the recursive names such as Wine or Gnu but i like that the joke is there even if i don't happen to find it amusing myself.  I always deliberately mis-type typo as tpyo jsut for the fun of it.

Thanks. I was trying to follow the suggestions on the Bugzilla page, but I don't mind your changes at all.

That's great! It's nice to see some people still have a sense of humor!

You're welcome. When I have time, I've got 4 more bugs for tables to submit. But I plan on asking the user mailing list first.

I see what you mean. Added the keyword TABLES in capitals to the title
(Bugzilla calls it Summary)
The idea is that the Summary clearly describes the problem AND includes the
keywords if applicable.

Give us your best shot. We can handle it

+1 - I like the explanation, there have not been found yet.
