HI

Some extensions are not fully tanslated and are bundled into the LIbO 3.3.

One interesting extension is the Calc non-linear Solver: Tools - Solver - Options, and selec the non-linear solvers.

Can we load them in Pootle?

Technically it is possible but what was timeframe you were thinking
of? Should we aim LibreOffice 3.3 release or LibreOffice Next? I would
require much effort to have this LibreOffice 3.3.

And as I explained in the bug, this one is non-trivial. The extension
in general don't use the same translation mechanism that the rest of
LibO uses. Even so, some extensions written in C++ and included in the
build tree cheats by directly accessing LibO's internal resource API
(such as calc's default linear solver), but because the non-linear
solver is written in Java, we can't do that cheat. :frowning:

So, to make the string translatable for this extension we'd have to make
non-trivial amount of change in the code itself, which I personally
don't feel comfortable doing in the 3.3 time line.

As a temporary solution, can't we just translate the .properties files
and bundle the translated .properties? All you need to do is to update
tarball at the end of the process.

Yes. That's possible, except for the name of the solver itself that
appears at the top of the Options dialog. That name is hard-coded in
the code, so even with .properties files it's not possible to translate
it.

To make the solver name available in the .properties files would require
changing the code there, unfortunately. But I believe everything else
can be translated with the .properties files as you said.

Question to all localizers: how many of you want to translate this?
Please note that this is highly technical - e.g. I'm not sure I want
this in Hungarian. I can convert .properties to .po and I can ask Rimas
to put them into Pootle, but I need to know, if it worths the effort. It
is already translated to German.

Also, there is a help section in this extension. Help of extensions are
not localizable at all in the current framework. Localizing of extension
help is planned feature in OOo (thus we'll have it some day in
LibreOffice - unless all help system changes in LibreOffice).

I think at least the second one should be localized, it is not so technical.
The first one - I would need some technical help with the translation, so I
will leave it as it is. I will send you back the second file localized.

No need to convert actually, Pootle supports .properties files natively. I've just slightly altered the names of all four (2 English and 2 German) files, and they're good to go: http://translations.documentfoundation.org/projects/extensions/.

Those who want to translate using Pootle should just ask to enable translating this project into their language, and that's about it.

Although it is technical, users may want to have it localized. And not all
users know well English. So its use could be quite difficult for some of them.

My opinion is: more translations, better quality, wider audience...
